Temporary Closures on Four Trails in Gauja National Park

30.10.2024
To ensure visitor safety and protect the natural environment, Gauja National Park has temporarily closed sections of four popular hiking trails.

This decision allows for necessary maintenance and preservation efforts in areas where trail conditions have been impacted by weather and seasonal changes.

The wooden structures, steps, and bridge parts on these trails have deteriorated and currently pose safety risks. Visitors are urged to stay cautious and avoid damaged sections, even if caution signs or barriers are missing, until official announcements confirm the completion of repairs. For more information, please visit daba.gov.lv.

The closures are effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice. While we understand that these trails are favorites among nature enthusiasts, safety and conservation are priorities at Gauja National Park.

Warning signs have been placed at the starting and ending points of closed trails. Once the staircases and bridges are repaired and deemed safe, the park administration will notify the public through media and social media channels. For the latest updates, visitors are encouraged to check the sites daba.gov.lvtiekamiesdaba.lv, and the park’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.

Although several popular hiking trail sections in Gauja Valley are temporarily closed, the area still offers many alternative paths for visitors. To help plan a scenic day outdoors in any Latvian location, the mobile app Dabas Tūrisms and the website tiekamiesdaba.lv feature over 700 nature spots, including trails, viewpoints, towers, boardwalks, cycling routes, and bird- and wildlife-watching areas.
