This is where the origin of Cēsis is found. On Mound Riekstu and its vicinity there was a wooden castle built by the Vendi in 11th – 13th century. Mound Riekstu is found in the central area of Pils Park, and it offers a nice view towards the pond and Cēsis castle ruins.
