The New Castle of Sigulda and Castle Quarter

The fence built of chipped stone and situated in the historic centre of Sigulda manor surrounds buildings built in the 18th and 19th centuries: the Summer Castle, the New Castle, the White Castle, Taskmaster's, manor servants' house, barn, laundry, fruit and root cellars.

In the 19th century, next to the old wooden manor house, the manor owners Princess Olga and Prince Dmitri Kropotkin built the New Castle from stone masonry typical to Vidzeme. The story goes that the lime used for construction of the Sigulda Castle was mixed with milk from a nearby farm, and that is why it is so strong.

Magnificent national style interior of the New Castle of Sigulda was created in in thirties of the 20th century, when it belonged to the Latvian Press Society. During this time, pictures of the luxurious castle were published even in sophisticated French art magazines.

Currently, the manor buildings houses craftsmen, artists and designers' creative workshops. There you can see exhibitions and expositions, as well as participate in some workshops, for example, the paper workshop "Victor's letters", Baltic Jewelry workshops, walking stick, ceramics and textile workshops.
