Kiln Opening and Summer Solstice Celebration at Mākoņi

Summer Solstice at Mākoņi begins on 20 June — with fire, clay and the power of togetherness. Every year on this day, the black clay kiln Devoniņš is fired, where more than a hundred pieces are created — mugs, bowls, plates and other works that bring the true Summer Solstice feeling to life.

We invite you to witness the magical kiln opening process and choose your own special Summer Solstice ceramic piece. After purchasing it, you will have the opportunity to oil it yourself, adding your own intention and energy.

Afterwards, activity continues throughout the homestead. Together we will prepare for the celebration by building the large bonfire, decorating the farmstead, weaving flower crowns and making traditional Jāņi cheese.

The rituals will be guided by experienced masters in their fields:

Ilmārs Vecelis (Auleja) — kiln opening
Inese Krīgere (Ogre) — flower decorations and wreath weaving
Valts Bērziņš (Līgatne) — building the large bonfire

Special guests of the evening will be the mixed choir “Grīva” and conductor Evita Konuša, who will fill the celebration with traditional Midsummer songs.

The evening continues with a Fire Ritual, led by Dievturi priestess Līga Skujiņa and Anita Irbīte, singer of the Grīva choir.

18:00–19:30 – Kiln opening
20:00–22:00 – Decorating the homestead, wreath weaving and cheese making

21 June – Summer Solstice Sauna and Clay Day at Mākoņi

After the magical night of 20 June — when we opened the kiln together, wove wreaths, sang and lit the great fire — 21 June is dedicated to the body, peace and connection with nature.

At Mākoņi, Summer Solstice is a slow and nature-filled celebration among blooming meadows, deep ravines and a large pond protected by three mighty oak trees.

By the pond gently floats a sauna on water, while nearby clay rituals will take place in the cozy “Little Rabbit Sauna.” It is a handmade work of art created by the hosts themselves to offer a warm and natural atmosphere.

The sensory journey begins early in the morning with warming clay and meadow-herb foot baths beneath the first rays of the sun. In the floating sauna, guests can enjoy gentle warmth, steam and skin cleansing rituals.

Each guest will have the opportunity to create their own special body scrub from fragrant summer herbs, sea salt and clay.

The day ends with a hot outdoor tub filled with Midsummer herbs and views of a magical sunset.

Meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner — will be served in black clay dishes with seasonal foods.
