The programme will be based on new works - new productions of the original dramaturgy, the cooperation projects of Latvian and theatre professionals, including contemporary opera and musical performances for young people, a special festival city will be created in the Hansa Square, as well there will be a children’s programme – both in new places with unexpected solutions continuing the 2017 festival performances, and creating new ones.
The artistic and emotional content of the shows will be focused on the searches for the better quality of life in the environment in which we are today and the environment in which we will be in the future, but most of all, our children. Among the festival's artists there will be Latvian and foreign professionals from Germany, Britain and other countries.
An essential part of the festival will be the open-air cinema programme, musical adventures, as well as the activities at the centre of the festival, which will be a gathering place for spectators and participants. For all festival days there are planned separate events with their artistic content. The Centre will be set up in cooperation with the International Summer School “FestivaL’and” and organized by the RISEBA University of Business, Arts and Technology.
The Valmiera Summer Theatre Festival will be held for the third time, bringing together till now more than 5000 visitors annually. The festival is organized by the Valmiera Theatre in cooperation with Valmiera City Council, as well as with the State Culture Capital Foundation and Latvia’s State centenary programme. The festival also received the Latvian Television and Latvian Radio Award "Kilograms kultūras 2016", the Independent urban environment Award "Rīgas metrs", and was nominated for several categories for the Latvian Theatre Award "Spēlmaņu nakts".
