With train no Cēsis, Gauja National park

Cēsis town is easily accessible by train, which winds its way through picturesque forests from the capital of Latvia - Rīga. The scenic journey takes approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. You can check train schedules on the website 1188.lv , and tickets are available for purchase online, at the ticket counter in Riga station, or from the conductor on the train (with an additional €1 fee for on-board purchases).

Cēsis Old Town

Cēsis Old Town is a captivating area steeped in history, featuring cobblestone streets, well-preserved medieval architecture, and charming squares. Dominated by the ruins of the Cēsis Castle and the picturesque St. John’s Church, the Old Town offers a glimpse into the past with its historic buildings, quaint cafes, and artisan shops. Parks and Squares

Several lovely and important parks established in the past now serve as popular meeting spots, scenic walking areas, and venues for various events.

Vienības square (Vienības laukums) in Cēsis is a central square that serves as a lively hub for both locals and visitors. The Victory Monument to Latvians and Estonians killed in the Battles of Cēsis on 22 June 1924. The square is located 400 meters from Cēsis station square.

Square of Roses (Rožu laukums), the former Market Square, located in Sv. In front of St. John's Church, since the 13th century. In the square is located locat artist's work "Ancient Cēsis". The sculpture "Senās (Ancient) Cēsis" is the depiction of the town plan in bronze which is created based on the first available town plans. The square is located 650 meters from Cēsis station square.

Līvu Square - during the 13th century, there was a church, a cemetery and Rīga gate in the town walls. Today the square features a lighted fountain. In the square you can the the Princess House. The square is located 900 meters from Cēsis station square.

Cēsis Castle Park is a beautifully landscaped area surrounding the historic Cēsis Castle, offering a serene retreat amid lush greenery and scenic views. The park features well-maintained pathways that meander through picturesque gardens, ancient trees, and charming water features. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park while taking in the castle's majestic ruins and the tranquil ambiance of this historic setting. Maija Park is a delightful green space known for its tranquil atmosphere and beautifully landscaped grounds. This park features well-kept walking paths and playground for kids, skate park for youngsters.

H.E.Vanadziņa House

H.E.Vanadziņa House is located in the heart of Cēsis Old Town. It is an ancient masterpiece of wooden architecture, which is one of the most remarkable examples of the 18th century in the history of Cēsis. The name comes from the times when doctor Kārlis Vanadziņš was the owner of this architectural pearl, and to this day the local residents of Cēsi continue to affectionately call it Vanadziņš's house. Nowdays you can enjoy delicious meals in the restaurant that is included in MICHELIN Latvia guide. Vanadziņa house hosts design apartaments. H.E.Vanadziņa House is located 550 meters from the station square.

The towns in Gauja National park are connected with train and public buses.
