Sarkanās Cliffs and Rūcamavots Spring

Your walk along the Sarkanās Cliffs and springs bubbling at the bottom of them will be full of new revelations and romance!

Sarkanās (Red) Cliffs, which are named after the red sandstone, is a mysterious and romantic place for lovers. The colour red is known as the colour of love and life.

Several hundreds of meters long, the ancient cliffs are snugly set amongst the forest trees on the right bank of the Gauja River. The monolithic wall of the cliffs is cleaved in two roughly down the middle.

Crevices in the Sarkanās (Red) cliffs split the red rocks, creating an unusual artwork of nature. The uneven surface is covered in small caves and nooks.

The cliffs surprise not only with their unusual colour and jagged surface, but also with the clear springs.

The most popular spring of Sarkanās Cliffs is Rūcamavots (Rumbling) Spring, which emerges from the ground with a light rumbling sound. It seems to enjoy the attention and attracts a lot of guests with its eternal flow of water.
