Local communities connect in NaturEUnite project in Ptuj, Slovenia

01.09.2025
On August 22 - 24, 2025 citizens from Albania, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovenia came together in Ptuj town, Slovenia to explore Slovenia’s natural heritage, cultural traditions, and local practices, while exchanging experiences and knowledge with participants from across Europe.

During the event, participants engaged in discussions on key topics such as free movement as a factor for tourism development within the European Union, sustainable tourism in local regions, collaboration among tourism stakeholders, and the impact of nature protection on tourism and entrepreneurship. The discussions also included a language workshop and networking opportunities to foster cross-cultural dialogue.

Participants took part in the Roman Games, marching in a joint parade in Roman costumes, attending traditional workshops, and watching gladiatorial fights. They also visited local enterprises, including Wildlife Park Destrnik, Turistična kmetija Lovrec, and Panorama Krapša, engaging in discussions with entrepreneurs about tourism development and the challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurship in protected areas.

The next experience exchange event, themed “Restrictions of Nature Along with Activities”, is scheduled for 3–5 October 2025 in Gauja National Park, Latvia, with the highlight being the Night of Fire in Vienkoču Park.

The NaturEUnite project aims to connect citizens living in and around Europe’s protected natural areas, foster pride in local heritage, and encourage collaboration among communities and tourism entrepreneurs. The project’s core activities are experience exchange events hosted across partner regions, immersing participants in local traditions, landscapes, and community life while promoting dialogue on shared challenges and opportunities.
