Traditional Simjūds Fair offers a true feast for the visitors already since the Medieval times, when in the autumn of 1283 the founding stone of the Valmiera St. Simon’s Church was laid. In the fair visitors can buy homemade bread and pastry, smoked meat, fish, cheese, sweets, fresh and dried fruit, vegetables, honey, wax candles, basketry, wooden works and metal works, as well as woollen articles. Goods made by the local craftsmen suit the Simjūds Fair as much as songs, dances, games and magical meetings… And ever since on the second Saturday of October people from far and wide are brought to Valmiera to the famous Simjūds fair.
